Luca Visual FX has developed XOverlays for Noise Industries‘ FxFactory. It is a collection of 15 motion graphics effects with fully customizable controls for the Final Cut Pro X editing system.
The templates included are the following:
- Bands: adds moving bands to images, offering the possibility to modify their angle, color, speed and edge smoothing.
- Funky: contains three varieties (Funky, Funky Linear and Funky Frantic) that create overlays with animated abstract shapes.
- Grids: allows you to insert two clips within a composition of light and number grids with animations.
- High Tech: with this effect you can add fully customizable elements and texts to the image.
- Hight Tech Circuit: contains an animated circuit board design.
- Sound Ripples: recreates the effect of sound waves.
- Sound Visualizer Overlays: it is very similar to the previous template. It includes several overlay elements that reproduce a sound visualizer over the image. It also comes with an animated equalizer and wave frequency.
- 8 Image Sections: inspired by the 60’s, it frames the clip in 8 sections adding colors, glitches and other elements (which can be adjusted to your taste) in each of them.
- Flary Pattern: applies circular or square elements and allows you to recreate effects such as lens flare, points of light or use the adjustable controls simply to stylize the image.
- Time Split 12: splits the image and delays part of the material following various styles.
- Mark Split/Mask Split: using masks and green bands reveals a material located “behind” the main image following various patterns.

For XOverlays to work properly it is necessary:
Final Cut Pro X → 10.0.6 or higher.
Mac OS X → 10.7 or higher.
FxFactory → 4.0.2 or higher.
A graphics card of at least 1GB is recommended.
From the latest version of FxFactory, 4.0.5 (if you don’t have it you can download it from here) it is possible to download the trial. Then, if you are interested in buying XOverlays, you only have to buy it from this page for 49$ and use the registration code to unlock it.
In addition, Luca Visual FX is offering a set of 20 free templates designed specifically for High Tech and Grid effects (although not exclusively). To receive them you just have to subscribe to the newsletter from here (after purchasing the complete suite).
