Zacuto announces Kameleon: a 1080p Micro OLED EVF

Zacuto, a company that continues to establish itself as the owner of the EVF aftermarket, announced yesterday its new EVF KAMELEON.

Following its popular Gratical HD and Gratical Eye EVFs that won the hearts of many cinematographers, Zacuto has introduced Kameleon, a three-function electronic viewfinder that can be used on any camera. Its pricing and features continue to outpace those of camera manufacturers who likewise offer their particular EVFs with functions for their own devices.

Kameleon has a slightly more camera-friendly shape than the Gratical HD and is longer than the Gratical Eye EVF. Like Zacuto’s other two EVFs, the Kameleon EVF can work on almost any camera with HDMI or SDI output. However, the Kameleon is not a replacement for the Gratical HD or Gratical Eye, but rather a third option for cinematographers.

Like the Zacuto Gratical Eye, the Kameleon EVF does not have a dedicated battery slot. Power to the Kameleon EVF must come from the camera or the camera’s battery via a USB-C power input, a 4-pin Lemo connector, or a D-Tap connection from a Gold Mount or V-Mount Battery Plate.

For those cinematographers who have hyperopia and presbyopia and need reading glasses for near vision, the Kameleon EVF has the option of placing an extreme correction of +1, +2, +3 or +4 in diopter. This is a very useful measure because there comes a time when it is more difficult to operate a camera with a monitor centimeters away from the face.

The Kameleon EVF keeps the essence and all those Zacuto features, such as the possibility to increase the diopter as mentioned above, the anti-fog protection and the self-closing eyepiece to prevent the screen from burning in the sun. The new Kameleon EVF can handle 4K inputs and includes 3D LUT support.

Zacuto has already put the EVF Kameleon on its website at an approximate price of 1700€.
