There is no doubt that film emulations are trending in the world of color correction. And it may be deservedly so, as they provide a starting point for our look that can be close to that of cinematographic film. Regardless of whether there is an exact fidelity or not between these looks and the actual film, the approaches offered by these emulations are in many cases aesthetic and suitable for our productions.
Among the multiple options for carrying out these emulations, there is an external plugin that stands out for its creative possibilities: Dehancer Pro
The interesting aspect of this plugin is its variety of options when creating this film-style look, from the selection of the initial “film” (from a catalog of 63) to the amount of gate weave, including grain addition, halation, vignetting, or bloom.
It can be used both in color correction without color management (scene-referred) or using ACES color management (and in the case of DaVinci, the proprietary RCM system can also be used).
Dehancer is compatible with DaVinci Resolve on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and they have recently added support for Final Cut Pro X.
