The New Sirui 24mm Anamorphic Lens

Sirui starts the year by announcing a new anamorphic lens, this time it’s a 24mm F2.8 1.33x, which added to the previous 2 completes a set of 3 anamorphic lenses with a 35mm, 50mm, and now the 24mm.

The new Sirui anamorphic is designed to stretch the horizontal field of view even further, up to 1.33 times more. The cylindrical front element allows projecting more content onto the sensor so that the resulting image is HD 2.4:1, which translates into a more realistic feeling. The 24mm, unlike Sirui’s 35mm and 50mm, offers a perfect focal length for capturing from landscapes to indoor scenes by being able to expand the cinematic frame more.

It comes to market with 5 different mounts for a wide variety of mirrorless cameras in the market. These include M 4/3, Sony E, Fuji X, Nikon Z, and Canon EF-M mounts.

The lens composition is designed with an optical element capable of eliminating distortion and optical aberration and consists of a total of 13 elements in 10 groups. When capturing moving subjects, Sirui highlights the lens’s ability to expand the background. That is, when focusing on the subject, the lens is able to stretch the background following the proportion with respect to the subject to give a sense of a wider frame and greater dimension.

It’s a lens with an F2.8 aperture and allows for continuous aperture control between f2.8 and f16. In this range, it allows us to capture both in broad daylight and at night. The focus in the center of the image is better the more closed the diaphragm is. The bokeh created by the lens is oval-shaped and allows for capturing blue light rays.

It’s designed to be a precise and durable lens at the same time with an aluminum housing and Schott glasses with a nano-coating. Both focus and aperture rings are made of copper. The diaphragm is designed with 8 blades.

The new Sirui 24mm anamorphic is already available for sale and comes to market for 749 dollars, although due to the high demand it’s having, it seems that prices may vary.
