Leica launches its new camera model Leica SL2-S, faster than the SL2 model so that those dedicated to photography and video can achieve exceptional results with high performance. It’s not a model that replaces the previous SL2, they are two different models that provide distinct results for those looking for more options when recording.
The new mirrorless Leica SL2-S comes with a 24-megapixel CMOS-BSI sensor and a Maestro III image processor that ensures both video and photography functions achieve the best results. “It’s like having two cameras in one“. True to Leica’s style, the new SL2-S breathes the purest Leica style with an iconic, ergonomic, and quality design with metal and leather materials and advanced technology.
One of the great advantages offered by the new model is the option to record video, something that, according to the German brand, will be updated and improved with upcoming firmware releases. It allows recording 4K video, Cine4K with a color depth of 10-bit 4:2:2 up to 60 frames per second. It allows recording in logarithmic with the L-LOG gamma and for image visualization it has integrated LUTs to have control over the image at all times. It also has other control functions such as Follow Focus and waveform monitor.
It’s worth highlighting the unlimited internal recording capacity, without cutting or splitting the video, with the only limitation being the card capacity. Among the video formats compatible with the Leica SL2-S, we will find in the next update the HEVC, h.265, a video compression standard for 10-bit recordings in 4K at 60 fps.
In the design, Leica has added EyeRes® EVF which unifies a 5.76MP screen panel with a metal and glass viewfinder.
It is already available for sale and enters the market with a price of €4,540.
