The camera Z CAM E2 camera will now be able to record in 4K Apple Pro Res RAW 12-bit RAW using the Atomos Ninja V monitor. Through the HDMI input, the Ninja V HDR monitor will allow the cinema camera to record in Ultra High Definition HFR, making it one of the most affordable options on the market.
Z CAM already had an option to record in RAW, although it was only available for Windows at the beginning and later they released the option for Mac, but both required a very laborious process. Z CAM came to the market with several models becoming film cameras with a great potential to work at high resolutions without having an exorbitant price. Now with the option to record RAW using the Atomos monitor, the workflow becomes a much simpler process for $2,500 total. Atomos already did something similar with the Sony FX9, giving access to RAW recording this time with the Atomos Shogun 7.
As for the recording specs allowed on the Atomos Ninja V with the Z CAM E2, it allows for 12-bit depth imaging at a frame rate of 60fps in progressive 4K. To make this combo work Z CAM has released its new update for free, which will be required for compatibility with the in turn, new Atomos firmware, which will be where it will ultimately record. In addition to ProRes RAW recording, certain parts of the camera will be accessible from the monitor, and the company has announced new features for the future, such as increased frame rate capabilities. They also plan to expand this system to the more advanced models of the Z CAM series.
The connection is made via HDMI but it is the mini SATA AtomX SSD where the RAW files are stored.
