Panasonic introduces its new full-frame mirrorless camera, the LUMIX S5. LUMIX S5. Panasonic’s new hybrid model will be perfect for both still and video shooters and offers a compact and simple design for those who want to go one step further. It joins Panasonic’s S series alongside the S1R, S1 and S1H.
Panasonic, pioneers in developing photo and video cameras in hybrid and full frame format, present the new model with a 24.2 megapixel Full Frame CMOS sensor. A great novelty added to this model is the Dual ISO native system that provides 14 steps of dynamic range and can reach 51,200 ISO.
For video the LUMIX S5 can record in 4K with 10-bit color depth at 60p or 50 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 at 30 or 25p. In order to record in 4K at 10-bit 4:2:2:2 it can be done via HDMI. As a novelty, Panasonic has developed a heat dispersion system that allows long internal recordings in 4K at 8-bit 4:2:0 with no time limit. It also allows other recording formats such as HDR, 4:3 or slow and fast motion. It features “Varicam Look” colorimetry and is compatible with V-Log and V-Gamut.
For video recording, the LUMIX S5, like its S-series companions, features a dual stabilization system: the 5-axis stabilization system of the camera body and the 2-axis optical lens stabilization system. In this way, the Dual 2 I.S. improves and eliminates camera shake so that the shutter speed can be reduced by up to 6.5 stops.
For photography it has 96 megapixels in JPEG or RAW format, the high resolution mode for best results. It also features HLG Photo mode and the Live View Composite option. Thanks to the new high-speed autofocus system, the lUMIX S5 is able to identify subjects in real time and parts of the subject, such as human eyes, and focus accurately and quickly in photo and video.
The LUMIX S5 features a rugged, splash and dust sealed body. The mount is L-Mount, for greater compatibility with optics. It has 2 SD card slots and allows connection via WI-FI and Bluetooth 4.2.
It will be released this September with 2 purchase options: the camera body, for 1,999€, or the pack that includes the 20-60mm lens for 2,299€.
