Vazen’s new 28 mm anamorphic lens

The Vazen brand has released its latest lens for micro four-thirds cameras, the 28mm T2.2 1.8x. This is the new anamorphic lens developed by Vazen, the makers of cine lenses and they seem to be specializing in the anamorphic world. The 28mm is the second anamorphic lens after the 40mm they introduced last year and has been a good match for cameras like the Panasonic GH5, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K or the Z Cam E2.

The 28mm T2.2 thus becomes Vazen’s most angular anamorphic lens to date, and for the time being it looks set to stay that way, as among the upcoming releases announced by the manufacturers is another 65mm anamorphic lens. The aspect ratio of the lens is unchanged from the 40mm, and remains 2.39:1. The lens compression factor is 1.8x, designed to achieve that aspect ratio.

Getting into the physical details of the lens, it is a 28mm with a front diameter of 80mm. It features a 77mm thread intended for adding any filter to the lens. The lens, without any added accessories is quite light, weighing in at0.72 grams and the measurements are 80x 107mm. As for the minimum focusing distance, the Vazen 28mm T2.2 allows 0.82m close-up and is a fairly wide lens having 72 degrees of horizontal view.

Anamorphic lenses give a lot of play in blurring, and Vazen highlights the kind of bokeh that is produced with their anamorphic lenses. A soft, oval bokeh that gives an even more cinematic look to images. Lens sharpness is also an aspect highlighted by its manufacturers, ensuring that sharpness is maintained even when wide open.

The second anamorphic lens for micro four thirds on the market is priced at $3,250, just like the previous model (40mm). If you are thinking of buying the 2 lenses, Vazen is offering a $400 discount. What will be Vazen’ s third anamorphic lens, the 65mm, with a “stronger anamorphic character” will be announced in the coming months.
