The new Supreme Prime Radiance lenses from Zeiss

The new lenses Supreme Prime Radiance lenses from Zeiss come from the Prime Supreme family, but unlike these, they have a blue T* coating. Thanks to this coating, images withmore controlled flarescan be achieved without losing the secondary information implied by these aesthetic effects.

Often cinematographers have to deal with these lighting intrusions on the lens and others are looking for just the opposite. Supreme Prime Radiance adjusts the exposureto what they call “the right light” at the moment the lens starts to flicker. This adjustment ensures that image contrast is not lost, as it would be with lenses that do not have this blue T* coating.

The new Prime Radiance Supreme lenses are launched in a set of 7 lenses with different focal lengths. In this set we can find 21mm, 25mm, 29mm, 35mm, 50, 85 and 100mm focal length lenses. All of them share the same novelty of the coating but other than that they are still the same lenses. The maximum aperture of this set has been set to a T1.5, they have an image circle diameter of 46.3 millimeters and 95mm front diameter. It features Zeiss eXtended metadata technology as well as smooth focus and aperture rings, as we are accustomed to from Zeiss. The transition between in-focus and out-of-focus areas is very elegant for richer textures.

Unlike standard primes, radiance lenses offer warmer images, but in all other respects, they are still fast, robust, large format lenses that can be perfectly combined with standard primes.

These new “character” lenses are being released in a closed pack of 7 lenses for $170,300. Orders can be placed now but will only be available until March 31, 2020, at least for now.
