Alexa LF | the new ARRI camera

ARRI adds a new version of its well-known Alexa digital cinematography camera to its collection. On Friday, February 2, during the BSC Expo in London, ARRI unveiled the Alexa LF. The new Alexa LF records native 4k (4448 x 3096) and can record in Apple ProRes (422, 422 HQ, 4444 & 4444 XQ) and unencrypted ARRIRAW. This new version – according to the manufacturer – maintains the same colorimetry and dynamic range as its predecessors. Thus, the pleasant skin tones and the suitability for HDR and WCG workflows will be maintained. However, it only reaches 150fps, thus being 50fps slower than the Alexa Mini camera.

The dimensions of the camera are 364 x 201 x 158 mm and it weighs 7.8 kg (body + LPL).

more about ARRI on the market

The launch of the new Alexa is accompanied by 16 new large-format lenses equipped with the new ARRI LPL mount. This mount features a larger diameter and shorter focal length, allowing ARRI Signature Primes and all future large-format lenses to be smaller and lighter, with fast T-stop and pleasing bokeh. The PL-to-LPL adapter offers compatibility with all previous PL-mount lenses, whether Super 35 or full frame. The new lenses introduced by ARRI range from 12mm to 280mm.

ARRI Alexa LF will be available at the end of March this year. However, it won’t be until June when the initial set of four Signature Prime lenses (35mm, 47mm, 75mm and 125mm) will be available. The rest of the lenses will have to wait a bit longer.
