Z-Camera E-1, the 4K in 7 centimeters

At NAB there is not only room for big and famous companies such as ARRI, RED or Sony, but also for small manufacturers to present their products.

This is how the new Z-Camera Z-Camera E-1the world’s smallest 4K camera with interchangeable lenses. It is a project developed by Kickstarter and its creator is called Jason Zhang, former worker of Ambarella, the company that supplies chips to GoPro.

The camera is equipped with the same sensor as the Panasonic GH4, and allows capturing images with the H.264 codec in the following resolutions and speeds (mainly):

  • 4K DCI – 24fps
  • 4K UHD – 24, 25 and 30fps (at a rate of 60Mbps)
  • 1080 – Up to 60fps
  • 720 – Up to 240fps

Undoubtedly, size is one of the qualities for which this camera stands out the most, measuring 7.5 x 5.6 x 5cm, which is slightly larger than the M43 (Micro 4/3) mount it incorporates. During the NAB demonstrations, an Olympus lens was used, but as we have already mentioned, it is possible to use interchangeable lenses from manufacturers such as Panasonic, Lumix, Leica or Sigma, and even others that are MF (Manual Focus).

On the back it includes an LCD screen (320 x 240), although it is also possible to wirelessly connect iOS and Android devices, in order to view the image through the E1 Camera App.

It has a continuous autofocus system and among its connections we can find Micro USB and USB 2.0, Mini HDMI, HDMI 1.4a, 3.5mm microphone port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
