Side Effects Software released a couple of days ago Houdini 15, the new version of its system for modeling, animation and VFX creation.
This update features the Houdini Engine 2.0 and the revamped Mantra processor, which now has checkpoints and feedback in the render display.
More shader functions have been added including a library, rebuilt Shader FX menu, layered materials and drawing shading.
In the modeling part, tools such as Polybridge, PolyExtrude or PolyExpand 2D have been included.
New features in crowd simulation allow target locations to be specified. VFX workflow has also been improved thanks to PBD (position-based dynamics) to focus grain simulation on collision areas and fluid tools such as Lava, Melt Object and Emit Steam.
RenderMan 20 support has been integrated into RenderMan for Houdini, supporting RIS framework, geometric area lights and shader collection.
