DaVinci Resolve 12.2

Just a month after the previous version, Blackmagic Design is once again implementing some improvements (and not minor ones at that) in the 12.2 update of its popular DaVinci Resolve color correction system.

Probably the most outstanding new features are those related to HDR workflows, although we will also find added support and improved performance for some functions.

Expanded color science

Targeting HDR (high dynamic range) workflows, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) gamma is now supported through DaVinci color management. LUT conversions for the same will also be possible and the ST 2084 standard has been updated.

In addition, ACES IDTs (Input Device Transform) have been added for clips from the Canon C300 Mark II camera.

New supports and other functions

Other qualities of the upgrade include:

  • HEVC/H.265 QuickTime file decoding on Mac OS X platforms.
  • Improved compatibility with the ProRes 4444 alpha channel by making it have a direct merge mode by default.
  • When converting Power Windows, the opacity and inverse settings are retained.
  • Improved performance when exporting QuickTime files from Linux.

This is a free update and can be downloaded for both the free and paid (Studio) versions via the Blackmagic support page.
