Fusion-io has introduced a 1.6 TB version of its ioFX appliance for workstation application acceleration, joining the original 420 GB.
The high capacity of ioFX accelerates video editing, visual effects creation, CAD (Computer Assisted Design), playback and finishing allowing work in full 2K, 4K and 5K resolutions, as well as real-time stereoscopic 3D.
It is based on the Fusion ioMemory platform, which has long been used to accelerate data centers around the world. ioFx significantly improves the performance of CPUs and GPUs by eliminating traditional storage bottlenecks and enabling them to operate at their full potential. More high-resolution content can be processed and the latency caused by legacy SSDs and SANs can be eliminated.
It connects via PCI Express and is compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems, appearing on the computer screen as a hard disk.
Fusion-io has worked with several software and hardware vendors to maximize users’ capabilities and optimize ioFX for visual effects production. Therefore, those who want even greater performance should work with NVIDIA GPUs, specifically Quadro; Assimilate‘s Scratch system, both on set and in post; or perform 3D painting with MARI, shot review in HIERO and compositing in NUKE, all from The Foundry.
In addition, the company announced during NAB that this technology will be included in future versions of the HP Z820, Z620 and Z420 workstations.
ioFX also speeds up encoding, conversion, particle simulation and working with large amounts of cached data. Distribution is expected to begin this summer and pricing is still to be determined. The ioFX 420 GB version is available now for $1,995.
ioSphere is included, a software that manages monitoring and Fusion-io solutions from a single interface.
