Autodesk has announced the features that will be included in Smoke 2013 Extension 1, an update to be released next week.
Just a few weeks after its announcement at NAB about a technological collaboration with Blackmagic Design, we are starting to see the first results. This new version of Autodesk Smoke introduces support for Blackmagic Design video IO devices. It will do so with PCIe DeckLink video cards, Thunderbolt UltraStudio boxes and the Intensity product line.
The other major new feature is a powerful set of trim tools, with the new “Trim View” and dynamic trim functions that will provide faster editing.
As always with updates come new supported formats. This time it is SonyRAW, making Sony F5 and F55 camera material compatible with this editing, compositing and finishing system.
The workflow with Final Cut Pro X conforms has also been improved, allowing a more faithful translation of speed changes and the ability to conform ARRI Alexa ProRes files.
3D compositing also gets its share with this update, thanks to the improvement in Action when working with 3D objects, shading and textures.
Finally, performance has been improved in MediaHub when navigating between large datasets and mechanisms that help editors track background processes, monitor rendering and error identification.
Autodesk Smoke 2013 Extension 1 will be available from May 29 for Autodesk Subscription users. Those of you who are not yet subscribers can purchase a standalone Smoke license for $3,495, with an additional cost of $675 for the subscription. It is also possible to download the 30-day trial.
If you want to learn more about Smoke do not hesitate to sign up for the Smoke Course 2013 that will be held on the 8th and 9th of next June. Here you have all the information.
