Eyeon Connection for Avid

A couple of days ago the Eyeon Connection plugin for Avid’s AVX2 architecture was released. This means that Avid systems(Media Composer, Symphony, NewsCutter and DS) will be able to work together with Eyeon Dimension, and Eyeon Fusion 6.4, renewed the same day.

Eyeon Software had already announced this release during NAB, but now that the time has come, rumors have started to spread. Fusion is one of the most used compositing systems of the moment, along with Nuke, so this combination can turn Media Composer into a very powerful post-production tool, eliminating the shortcomings it had in this area (if we talk about high level). Who could this affect directly? The recently revamped Autodesk Smoke may have a big problem if users start choosing Avid systems for editing and having high-end compositing capabilities at their fingertips. However, one of the key factors in making this decision could be that Smoke runs on Mac and Eyeon Connection, like Fusion, runs only on Windows.

Now, thanks to this plug-in, the node-based Fusion toolset can be accessed directly from the Avid timeline. Through the effects palette you can export clips, including multiple layers (up to a maximum of 8), to create the effects design and then return to Avid without any problems. The clips are updated when the material has been rendered, but in the meantime, you can continue editing as Avid allows you to view in real time.

All the plugin operation, with explanations about exporting to Fusion, rendering, and the plugin installation process are explained in this tutorial:

A new particle geometry tool called Replicate 3D has been included in Fusion version 6.4, as well as support for raw material from the ARRI Alexa, Vision Research Phantom and RED cameras.

Eyeon Software has also pointed out that its Dimension software can come in handy for 3D work, thanks to its stereoscopy tools, mapping techniques and optical flow.

For those who already have a Fusion or Dimension license, you can download Eyeon Connection AVX2 from this link: eyeonfusion.vfxpedia.com/downloads/Connection_Install.exe. For the rest of you, you can check prices here.

I also leave you a video demonstration of the tools that can be used in Avid thanks to this plugin.
