New Avid MC 6 version

As we predicted last November 3rd Avid presented new versions of Media Composer, Symphony and Newscutter. Therefore Canon and Red also decided to make announcements on the same day (we will inform you about the news in the next few days). It seems that the manufacturers have decided to start the Christmas campaign early and that in all the letters to the Three Kings some of their products will appear.

There are no major new features in version 6 compared to the rumors that had already been announced. Native 64b software (be careful with Boris or Sapphire plugins because they should also be 64b), improved stereoscopic tools (no more Metafuze for example), support for ex-Euphonix Artist controllers in MC and Symphony and support for capture and monitoring with Aja, Blackmagic, Matrox and Bluefish through plu-ins called Open I/O (although not all functions are supported, e.g. stereo output or universal mastering of Symphony must be done through Nitris DX).

Support for Raw photo codecs in the “Pan and zoom” effect (we’ll have to see if it can be developed) and DNXHD 444, an integrated Apple (I mean Avid) store to be able to buy plug-ins or material from the software itself and the option of Symphony software only as the main novelty with respect to what we already knew.

The color corrector is still what it is in MC. It seems that Avid makes it clear that at least for a little while longer they will send Symphony for cc broadcast and leave the finishing and color grading of MC sequences to other software. And still (and this really cries to heaven) does not support 2k or 4k or anything k (well, yes, 1k) Let’s see if in the next Nab they take it out once and for all. Nor does it support the 48fps that we seem to be heading to for shooting and stereoscopic projection…that said, the Nab and 6.5….

Of course there are many more small changes derived from the 64b rewrite, we will see them little by little. Here you have the “what’s new” version: WhatsNew_MediaComposer_v6.0 and a link to see the Open I/O features and the cards of the different manufacturers supported by Avid.

Finally if you want to see the news in Spanish here you have them on the Avid Spain website. Enjoy!
