Canon EOS 5D Mark III

Canon has just announced the official release of its new HDSLR: the EOS 5D Mark III. I’ll summarize here what’s new in terms of video to save us some words:

  • Recording 1080 25P and 720 50P as in the 7D. In addition to all other frame rates, of course (24, 30…) with full-frame sensor.
  • Iso available from 100 to 102400 (with noise amplification, i.e. Iso)
  • Video recording up to 30m in different automatically segmented files of up to 4GB (due to FAT32 card limitation).
  • Support for CF and SD cards
  • Two types of compression are available: IPB and ALL-I (intraframe) in addition to H264. At this point the specifications are not very clear, we will have to wait to see exactly what kind of file type records with these compressions for ingest.
  • Support for CT embedded in the archive
  • Manual audio recording with mini-jack output for monitoring
  • New Digic 5+ processor improves moire, aberrations and other HDSLR video wonders
  • Dedicated video menu for making changes during recording
  • In the photo field the resolution is 22.3 Megapixel with HDR included in camera.

Unfortunately it does not have a clean output through HDMI, although Canon has announced that it will complement it and it is not specified if it has autofocus mode in video mode (I’m not saying it for me, it’s to help my foquista 😉

It is currently available at B&H for $3500. In Spain it is announced for the end of this month.
