One of the things I miss most from my days as a Final Touch // Apple Color operator (yes, it existed as a program before Apple bought it and it had more options, anyway…). It was that the www.coloruser.net community (don’t try it they have migrated from this site and this program to greener pastures) would post examples of creative color corrections to share and improve. Well, since it has been EOLed I throw my grain of sand sharing a couple of color corrections and I propose you to do the same.
The color corrections I share are the typical 2strip and 3strip with a slight diffusion, a personal imitation of the bleach bypass that also highlights the skins and a preset “nostalgic nostalgic antingua photo aseptic”.
I hope to see examples of yours on the web soon…
How do you share a color correction in a simple way?
In the Stills, Powergrade pages and in the memories it is possible!!! Select the thumbnail that corresponds to your color correction and after pressing the right button go to the “Export” option. It will give you the option to save a DPX of the frame you have saved and also place a DRX (davinci resolve exchange file) with the associated color correction next to it. You can do this in both “Gallery” and “Color”.
To have someone install them for you, all you have to do is select “Import” in the same way on those pages.
As a curiosity I want to add that, to the ignorance of many users, Davinci comes with many color correction presets uninstalled. They are examples of slightly more advanced treatments (diffusers, skin selections, imitations of laboratory processes) and in order to have them available we will have to go to the “Powergrade” section (both in the “gallery” and “color”), right click on the part not used by presets within that window and select “Import Power Grades”. Voila!!!! We already have examples to experiment the operation of the very interesting compositing part of Davinci. Actually what you are doing is loading the powergrades included in the application in System Disk/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/PowerGrades.
Here you have the zip files with each one of the PowerGrades:
These and many other operations will be performed in the advanced color correction techniques with DaVinci Resolve course.
Enjoy!
