Magic Bullet Denoiser II

At the end of last year Red Giant removed Magic Bullet Denoiser from their site, discontinuing the first version. Now they have delivered on their promise by releasing a second, improved version: Magic Bullet Denoiser II.

In this version they have tried to achieve a balance between noise reduction and sharpness, and for this they have worked together with industry professionals. It is designed completely from the ground up to provide greater stability than version 1 and improved quality.

One of the features that can be selected is “Motion Estimation”, which detects the camera’s motion and the motion inside the shot (that of the subject).

This allows you to distinguish more accurately what is image noise or natural movement of a character or camera, and to remove it without losing detail.

Depending on the type of image being processed, film or video, the values that can be changed are different.

For example, for images that come from photochemical you can affect in different ways the RGB channels or the highlights and lowlights.

As always, all these values can be modified once the effect has been applied, although, as they say, in most cases it will not be necessary, since thanks to its image analysis capacity, the default value will be sufficient.

One drawback is that it is currently only available for After Effects (CS4, CS5 and CS5.5), although in the future (we do not yet know when) many more systems will support it.

As announced, Denoiser II is a totally free update for all those who already had Denoiser 1 and for those who bought the Magic Bullet suite after it was discontinued. Here is the page to download it.

For those who are not Magic Bullet Suite users, you can download the trial here or buy it for $99 on this page.

I also leave you a link to a tutorial on Red Giant’s website which explains in detail how to apply the effect and modify the existing values on two examples of different images.
