Red Giant has just released the latest version of its famous software and plug-in package, Magic Bullet 11.1.
In this version of Magic Bullet in addition to Colorista II (color correction plug-in quite interesting but not very intuitive in my opinion) or Grinder 1.5 (transcoding program for HD DSLR media) we can find the new version of Looks 2. This color correction software is quite popular because of its ease to apply “looks” as its name says.
The program (or plug-in from our editing or compositing software) is based on presets (64 new ones in this version for a total of more than 100) that are applied to the material with a simple drag and drop. Once the preset is applied it can be edited using a particular interface based on the different “cinematic processes” in which you can touch color or contrast in a film production. That is: type of light on the subject, in-camera filtering, in-camera gamma, post-production, ect. In my opinion this makes that the program besides being a color corrector can also be used as a preview tool before shooting, which makes it very interesting.
The new interface includes more correction tools, including Colorista II, the classic three spheres or skin correction tools and allows video playback (previously you had to go to the editor to see the video in motion).
Currently Looks II can be used from Final Cut Pro 7, Sony Vegas 10, Premier Pro 5, Motion 4 and After Effects 5 among others. We’ll have to wait and see if there is also a version for Avid MC (since Looks I is available).
Red Giant has also announced that from now on it will publish tutorials, presets and offers on its website every Friday, we will try to be attentive to communicate them.
For now here are some tutorials to whet your appetite, bon appetit!
