We now know a little more about the Canon EOS R5

Canon previews new features of its upcoming Canon EOS R5 Canon EOS R5. Until now not much information was known about Canon’s new full frame model. Little by little the brand is unveiling new and relevant information about what is expected to be a revolution in the DSLR world.

What we did know is its ability to record in 8K RAW, making it a model that can be used even in large audiovisual productions. This is because in its designand development it has incorporated some functionalities that until now had only been applied to film cameras. It is capable of recording at 8K RAW internally with a speed of 29.97 frames per second.

As we go down the resolution, the recording possibilities vary and in 8K it allows recording at 29.97 fps, 4:2:2 at 10 bits in both Canon Log and HDR PQ, both in h.265 format. Similar to 8K, recording at 4K we have the same possibilities but the frame rate increases to 119.88 fps internally as well.

It also allows 4K video output via HDMI at 59.94 fps 4:2:2 at 10 bit for Canon Log and HDR PQ. It has 2 card slots 1 CF express and one slot for SD UHS-II.

Designed under the EOS R system, it also features the Canon Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus system for 8K and 4K modes. It is also compatible with the animal autofocus system, allowing you to recognize dogs, cats or birds.

As a novelty, and unlike previous Canon models, it has a new image stabilization system that combines the optical stabilization system with the lens stabilization system. The IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) system is more powerful and advanced than the previous ones. The performance varies according to the shutter we are using, being 12 fps for the mechanical one and 20 for the electronic one.

And as already announced a few months ago, with the Canon EOS R5 we can have access to image.canon to upload our content to the cloud as we work.

The NAB Express, where we are sure to learn about new features and capabilities of the new EOS R5 model, is getting closer and closer.
