The space camera | RED Gemini

RED has prepared a new camera for a very specific market. RED Gemini uses a customized S35 low-light sensor customized for use in outer space. Its name pays homage to NASA’s special program, which took place in the 1960s.

This sensor uses large pixels and has dimensions of 30.72 mm x 18 mm. It is larger than RED EPIC-W Helium but smaller than RED WEAPON Monstro. The 1.22x crop factor means that the field of view will be slightly wider than the EPIC-W Helium. Red in turn claims that this is a sensor two steps more sensitive than the Helium sensor. We can find the sensor housed in the DMSC2 body, which can shoot in 5K up to 96pfs.

“Gemini is a vampire…. She loves the dark but you literally need to put NDs on her if you want to shoot her in the light.”

Jarred Land, president of RED Digital Cinema

No matter how much interest the new Gemini has caused you, it’s too late to get hold of it. Specifically one was prepared for Elon Musk, founder, CEO and lead designer of SpaceX, and co-founder, CEO and product architect of Tesla. Only 5 additional Gemini sensors were made, which were purchased for less than $20,000 by writing directly to Jarred Land.

However, there is still time to reserve your place for our classroom course on codecs, formats and HD and 4k workflows, which will take place in Madrid on February 10 and 11.
